A new Democracy Corps and Greenberg Quinlan Rosner survey of youth voters shows fundamental differences in how young people experience and participate in the 2008 elections. This survey, the first this year of a series of Youth For The Win! (YFTW) projects designed to track young people’s involvement in the 2008 election, shows young people deeply engaged in the election.
In this analysis of how young people are experiencing and participating in this election in a different way, Stan Greenberg, Anna Greenberg, Dave Walker, and James Carville report on the record youth turnout in 2008 and the role of the internet in the elections. The survey also tracked young people’s political preferences, which we will release in a separate report later this week.
Two outcomes are almost certain in 2008 — Democrats will win the youth vote and young people will vote in record numbers. What is less obvious is the size of the margin and the scale of their participation. This survey represents an on-going commitment by Democracy Corps and Greenberg Quinlan Rosner to conduct regular, special surveys – every six weeks – to analyze the youth vote, its political preferences and level of engagement.
